Pakistan witnessed another proud moment on Monday morning when its javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem won a gold medal for the country at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
In the first round of the javelin final, Nadeem set a record with a 86.81m.
Arshad broke his own record with a throw of 88m on the second attempt, then held the top spot with a distance of 85.09m on the fourth attempt.
In the fifth attempt, the Olympian set a new CWG record of 90.18 meters, becoming the first Pakistani to hold the record.
Arshad Nadeem beat India’s Neeraj Chopra at the Tokyo Olympics with 87.58m (gold) and the World Athletics Championships with 88.13m.
This is Pakistan’s second gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Earlier, weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt won gold for Pakistan with a record 405kg at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
